We celebrated Christmas a little early so we could get together with the kids and have an excuse for a road trip too!
Don't forget if you want to see the pictures bigger, you can click on them.
Here we are headed south with Santa as our co pilot. We of course headed straight for Fort DeSoto and settled into our wonderful campsite.
Here is another shot of our campsite from out in the Gulf, taken while we were kayaking.
What a wonderful camping spot this place is. When we were out kayaking we had the wonderful experience of having a dolphin swim along with us. Here is a picture of it along side Cheryl.
Here is another shot of Cheryl heading for deeper water.
The days always seemed to filled with wonderful things to do, but always seem to come to a close at some point. The great thing about a day ending in Fort DeSoto are the sunsets.....
The next day was a little breezy and we took a ride to the east end of the island and was pleasantly surprised to come across a large group of kite boarders. What a crazy sport and crazy bunch of people. There was at least 25 of them.
Back at the main camp something happened that was kind of like loosing an old friend. There was always an old camp store with a wonderful old lady in it who would sell you your bait, milk, ice, wood or what ever camping items you needed. The store is gone and so is the old lady. When she died they tore down the store and plan to build a new one. They have a small temporary store off to the side. Here is a shot of where the old store used to be and the temporary one on the side.
A day always ends with a sunset here at Fort DeSoto, but the good news is that a day always starts with a breakfast!!!
It's always nice to have a friend come and visit while you enjoy your morning coffee and chow.
We decide to take a stroll out to the beach on the north end of the island and then head out for the wonderful maze of sights, sounds, and light, they call Disney World.
With a tear in our eye, we bid a fond farewell to Fort DeSoto and head east. We arrive at Disney and set up camp.
It's not quite secluded camping of Fort DeSoto, but it still wonderful to be camping and enjoying an early Christmas with the family. The presents were wrapped and the stockings were hung with care and all we need were the kids to be here.
Well the next day they arrived and the party began, we had some great times and some great eats. Here are a few pics of Disney as we saw it.....
It was funny but even at Disney we had company for breakfast.....
We had a wonderful week at Disney, but all good things must pass and we turned Dreamfinder north and headed out. We stopped on the way at Red Top Mountain, which is just North of Atlanta, where Jamie and Melissa live. Here is a shot of our campsite, where we would spend the nights and the days were spent at the kids house.
Was great to visit the kids at there decorated for Christmas house. We again enjoyed some great eats and some peaceful and relaxed time with the family. They just had a beautiful deck put on their house so we even got to enjoy a campfire while we were there.
Well all good things must pass and we had to finally head north, back to the cold and the snow, but always enjoy the sights along the way. here are a few parting shots until next time, when Dreamfinder, hit the road!!!!!
