June 9, 2017 Spring Fling Begins

Well after a rough fall, a lousy winter and a depressing spring, we are finally off on an adventure, for Dickie and Cheryl. We have reached a point in our lives where it seems that it's time for us, to take care of ourselves.

Starting here tonight at Mongaup Pond State Park, our home stomping ground, that we love and enjoy. Soon the full moon will be rising and the campfire lit.

June 10, 2017 Day 2 Mongaup

Got to see the Strawberry Moon rise last night and a very nice campfire.
Started the day off with a nice stack of blueberry pancakes and hot coffee. Cheryl was lucky enough to see a PAIR of eagles, eye level, but couldn't get Dickie to look to the right.

Out with the kayaks where Cheryl showed the hot shot fisherman, once again, how it's done. A pickerel and a nice small mouth bass, set the stage. We watched five boats cast and cast, but not a bite!😆 They are out there two hours later while we relax and have yet to see any of them reel one in. I know better then to even bring my pole, I take nature pictures and Cheryl catching fish.

June 23, 2017 Time to hit the road.

With a good feeling and an enjoyable time in Maine, it is time to head home. We were amazed with how many traffic jams we ran into on the way home. Was a smooth trip and took just about seven hours with a couple short stops. Man oh man, how much lawns and weeds can grow in two weeks!

June 22, 2017 Remember the Maine

Going for a slow and easy day...
Got around to breakfast at Congdon's around eleven and even then there was a line. Went with the Irish Eggs Benedict, very good, but the Egg and I, edged it out.
Brought the old lady next door home some donuts. Beautiful weather once again.
Headed out to the Marginal Way and this time walked the full length all the way to Oganquit Beach. Truly a beautiful walk along the ocean. On a typical Maine coast area.
Headed up to Kennebunkport to see the beaches and to admire the St Ann's Church and a run by the Bush estate.
Ended up at Allison's for a dinner of chowda and lobsta rolls. Great little New England town to eat and people watch.

June 21, 2017 Let Summer Begin

Sleep in and a late start to the Nubble Lighthouse, after a real local breakfast.
That Nubble Lighthouse never gets old, what a beautiful sight and the weather being perfect sure helps!
Lunch at the Cornerstones, while watching the hustle and bustle of Oguinquit and reminiscing about times gone by.
Couldn't pass on a chance to walk the big beach again and even put our toes in the cold Maine Atlantic.
Finished the day with traditional Maine pizza.....just couldn't do anymore chowda or lobsta.

June 20, 2017 Rain Sun Rain SUN

Don't egg egg me on, unless you can call yourself, The Egg and I. By far the best eggs Benedict I have had, made with homemade hash.
Follow that with a long walk through Kennybunk and Kennebunkport, while dodging rain showers and you have a great morning.
Bake at camp time for laundry duties and camper tidy up, with the reward being, Oarweeds for dinner.
Great dinner and wonderful clam chowda, they could specialize it, in this area.
A beautiful night, with the sun setting and a walk along the Marginal Way, one of Gram's favorite spots!

June19,2017 Maine or Bust

UHeading for Maine, The Way Life is Meant to Be. Hitting all the old stomping grounds and seeing the sites.
Set up camp under some pine trees and had a rental car, really living.
Took a stroll at Perkins Cove and say by the sea. Couldn't pass a chance for a walk along Oguinquit Beach and what beautiful cold water. Probably the widest sand beach we have ever been on.
We heard you could get a good bowl of chowda St Billy's near Wells and we weren't disappointed.

June 18, 2017 Father's Day

BRUNCH, need I say more! Great start to Father's Day. Going into the 80's and the sun is shining.
Nothing like a walk along the ocean with your shoes off to cool your heels. The water was borderline painful, but oh so refreshing. Another thrill is walking along the sea jetty, with the wind blowing so hard, that the sand hitting your face hurts.
Took a ride to the boat launch and got to see as rescue at sea, by a good Samaritan.
Burgers on the grill for Fathers Day.

June 16, 2017 Big Water

With a heavy heart and s tear in our eyes, we head east to the Atlantic Ocean. Settled into Salisbury State Park Ocean front! Smooth three plus hour ride, overcast but no rain. Just took an ocean walk on the beach and danced between rain drops! Forgot just how impressive the ocean is!

June 15, 2017 Last Day Here, but....

Looking like a top ten day according to the mourning weather man. It has lived up to the hype and is a beautiful day and we start it with a nice long walk on the boardwalk, boardwalk!
Another great high tide which means great kayaking and exploration of the salt marsh.
Back to the beach for some mandatory sitting and walking. End the day with a shoreline meal at Lenny and Joe's.
Back to camp and start to pack for the ride in the morning.

June 14, 2017 Wed. At Hammonasset

Had two minutes of rain this morning at 6:30am. Bike ride out to the board walk and glad we did, beautiful walk along the ocean. Great plants and beautiful views.
Back at camp we once again head out in the kayaks and this time we run into horseshoe crabs. Great day on the water and loving that salt air.
Back to the beach for an afternoon snooze and end the day in a laundry mat, life is good!

June 13, 2017 Play it again Hammie

More sun and temps back to 90 degrees😅 We headed to Meggs Point to tour the Nature Center and the staff confirmed the rumors of the parks closing. Great nature center with water, marsh and forest creatures on display. Took a bike tour of the beach road and checked out the sights.
Headed to the beach and fit in a nice nap under our umbrella, yet another day, neither of us could get in the water.
Had a great kayak ride from the marsh all the way out into the Long Island Sound. Rode the incoming tide back to our campsite.
After dinner a short bike ride for ice cream sundaes St the local carousal.
Another sunset to due for!

June 12, 2017 Hot and Clear Hammonasset

Nothing but sun and not a cloud in the sky, love waking up to the smell of salt air. Shore birds singing and Marsh birds pecking for food.
We grabbed the bikes and headed towards Meggs Point. Great exploring and checked on the rock walk formation. Quite a few mosquito this year and Dickie was their feeding ground.
Decided to head to the beach, being it turned out to be a record setting day for heat. Water this time of year is borderline too cold, for everyone but kids and macho guys. Needless to say we didn't get in the water, but cowered under our beach umbrella.
A great dinner at Lenny and Joe's Fishtale, a great old stand by shore fish fry house.
Back to camp for a ride on the Greenway trail and a beach walk with a beauty sunset. Another typical day at Hammonasset, but did hear a rumor it has a fifty fifty chance of closing.

June 11, 2017 Heading To Hammie

Leaving Mongaup Pond and heading to Hammonasset State Park, another of our favorite campgrounds! Beautiful sunny day going into the 90's.
Rolled into Hammonasset around two, after as nice drive. Setup and headed out on the bikes, being a Sunday we were amazed how busy the beach was.  Warm and sunny day that vacations are made for and we are lucky enough to be here in it.
Even got to see the resident swans and their babies. Grabbed a couple BBQ pork sandwiches at Chester's and ended the day with a sunset at the beach! Great first day.
